Studio Handog

As someone who relies on reference photos for my paintings, I sometimes feel like my illustrations look too ordinary compared to artists who are very good at creating from imagination. I'm slowly trying to find ways to add more personality to my work by experimenting with different styles. Lately, I've been drawn to adding shine and sparkle to my paintings to make my subjects look a little less mundane.

In reality, the process was much much slower than this timelapse video butI really enjoyed this part of painting the White Rabbit candies. 🐰 I'm using gouache paint on a hot pressed paper plus this really awesome $1 detail brush 👌🏻

Currently working on a new collection that features subjects from my Asian and Filipino heritage – so this gouache painting is of a popular brand of crackers called Skyflakes.

This was something I grew up eating as a snack or something to tide me over if a full meal wasn't available yet. I would also eat it when I wasn't feeling well and couldn't keep any food down. I love its plain but slightly salty flavor and I haven't found a replacement that's as good. Luckily, from where I am, it's available in Asian grocery stores.

This is my most exciting unboxing yet! 🦞🍊🥫 Finally, I'm unboxing my own products instead of others' this time. 🥺 As I prepare to open my online shop, I've been testing out different prototypes of the merch I want to create based on my favorite paintings. So far, I'm loving the keychains, prints, and stickers I've received. And I hope you'll all love them too once they're out!
