The ultimate builder debate: Spray Foam vs. Batt Insulation! π οΈβ‘οΈ
At Lane One Homes, we get asked all the time which option is actually better. The truth? We use both, and it completely depends on the specific needs of the build.
Swipe through for a breakdown of the pros and cons of each, and catch the time-lapse at the end to see the crew in action! π
π’ Spray Foam Insulation
Spray foam is the heavy hitter for maximum energy efficiency. It expands to fill every tiny crack and crevice, creating a seamless, airtight seal.
β
The Pros: Unbeatable R-value, blocks drafts perfectly, acts as its own v***r barrier, and even adds structural rigidity to the walls.
β The Cons: Higher upfront cost, and it locks your wall cavities in completely. If you ever need to run new plumbing or electrical down the road, chipping through cured foam is a messy, difficult job.
π’ Traditional Batt Insulation
Fiberglass batts are the classic, reliable choice. When installed correctly with a meticulously taped poly v***r barrier, they create a highly efficient, warm seal.
β
The Pros: Very cost-effective, offers excellent sound dampening, and keeps your walls fully accessible. Want to run new smart-home wiring later? Itβs an easy fix.
β The Cons: Lower R-value per inch compared to foam, and it strictly requires that separate, perfectly sealed plastic v***r barrier to stop air and moisture from getting in.
