On Friday we had the privilege of hearing from the Honourable Steven MacKinnon, Minister of Transport and Leader of the Government in the House of Commons, on how federal supply chain priorities connect to our province's export reality, and what it takes to keep Canada competitive on the world stage. The event was moderated by Gordon McKenzie, President and CEO of . Thank you to the for hosting this event to Canpotex for sponsoring event.

In a media scrum after the event, I shared how I was pleased to hear Minister MacKinnon's commitment to improving trade infrastructure which aligns with the Saskatchewan NDP's calls for more rail lines, pipelines and powerlines to ensure Saskatchewan goods get to market quickly and efficiently. However, competitiveness starts at home, and our exporters cannot compete if the province doubles power rates through their catastrophic coal refurbishment plan.

Refurbishing the coal plants would be like rebuilding the engine on your old junker, for several times the cost of a nice new car, while paying more for gas and maintenance.
