✨ Learning Curves ✨
A client came to me this past summer with the hair of their beloved horse. It had taken them a year to decide what they wanted to do with it, and once they were ready, it took me just over three months to carefully bring the piece to life.
I’ll admit, I went in a little blind, thinking “I work with hair all the time, how hard could it be?” I love a challenge… and this was definitely a challenge. Horse hair is incredibly delicate and quick to unravel, and when you’re working with something so precious like ashes, hair, memorial flowers etc... one false move can spell trouble. Would you believe I braided and re-braided this tiny strand over a dozen times!!
I worked diligently and calculated each step, yet still ran into roadblocks. Eventually, I sought guidance from a senior artist abroad, and with that support was able to make the adjustments needed to bring this piece together at last.
My work is beautiful, yes, but it is also deeply heartfelt. I will never rush a process just to get something out the door. Sometimes that means moving the goalpost and taking extra time, but it ensures that every piece is created with care, dignity, and respect. I am not too proud to admit when I've run into a problem and need more time and I strive to always communicate with the client in those situations.
At the end of the day, I am just one person, creating each piece by hand with no fancy machinery, no help, just patience and heart. These treasures are one-of-a-kind, and I’m so grateful for clients who trust me with them. I am truly blessed to have the opportunity to keep learning, growing, and honoring loved ones through my craft. ❤️
