As of July 1, Ontario has lowered the eligibility age for publicly funded colorectal cancer screening from age 50 to:

✅ age 45 for people at average risk
✅ age 40 for people at increased risk

You are at 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 if one or more of your parents, siblings or children have had the disease.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿? When caught early, 90% of people with colon cancer can be treated and cured.

Screening is simple and can be done at home with a free test. Ask your doctor or NP how to get a test, or call 811 if you do not have a doctor/NP.

Cervical cancer screening, formerly known as the pap test, is a key part of preventive care. Screening can catch changes early, long before cancer develops. Early care is powerful care.

Get screened if you:

➡️ are a woman, Two-Spirit person, transmasculine person, or nonbinary person with a cervix
➡️ have ever had sexual contact
➡️ do not have symptoms such as unusual bleeding or discharge
➡️ are due for screening (every 5 years per Ontario guidelines)

Early screening makes a difference.

Colorectal cancer is highly treatable when found early. Screening is one of the simplest ways to protect your health and take action before symptoms develop.

Starting July 1, the age to begin routine colorectal cancer screening for average risk adults in Ontario is changing from 50 to 45. Adults aged 45 to 74 are eligible for screening every two years using the F***l Immunochemical Test (FIT). The FIT is a free, safe, and easy at-home test that takes just a few minutes to complete and can be mailed directly to the lab using the prepaid envelope included in the kit.

If you have a parent, sibling, or child who has had colorectal cancer, speak with your doctor or nurse practitioner about when you should begin screening and which test is best for you.

If you're due for screening, contact your doctor or nurse practitioner to request a FIT test. If you don't have a primary care provider, call 811 for assistance.

Free Heart Screening at Renfrew Victoria Hospital

Renfrew Victoria Hospital is pleased to partner with the University of Ottawa Heart Institute as part of the One Million Canadian Hearts initiative—offering free heart health screenings for adults aged 18+ with no known heart conditions.

What’s included:
• Brief assessment
• Blood pressure check
• Rapid blood test
• Results and recommendations

Adults 65+ may also receive:
• ECG (electrocardiogram)
• Mini heart ultrasound
