In A New Blueprint for Government (Kevin G. Lynch & James R. Mitchell), which we recently explored at IPAC Saskatchewan, leadership is described as the “magic sauce” for meaningful government reform.
That idea is hard to ignore, because leadership scarcity is not abstract. It is showing up in real ways across the public sector, including here in Saskatchewan.
At a time when expectations are rising and outcomes are under increasing scrutiny, leadership can’t be purely administrative. It must be courageous, accountable, and focused on impact.
We need leaders who empower teams, encourage fearless policy advice, and are willing to make tough decisions in the public interest, bridging the gap between policy and real outcomes.
This shifts the conversation from systems to something more personal.
What kind of leader do you need to become?
