The lower slopes of Asahidake were where we actually found good pillowy snow. We said goodbye to the fumaroles and their low visibility and icy slopes, and ventured down the mountain. We really enjoyed getting away from the crowds and carving out our own path - oh the freedom of ski touring!

As we got closer to the main lodge/bottom of the gondola, we realized that we were on the wrong side of a major creek - and the bridge that we'd hoped to find did not exist...

We forged ahead and down anyways, not wanting to transition and skin back uphill to find another way around. Luckily we found a passable snow bridge much lower down! 😅
