Dan is a singer, and guitarist whose music style is old rock, roots and blues. Dan was exposed to music at a very young age. Sensing his love for music, Dan’s father bought him his first guitar at the age of 8. He quickly learned every chord to the Beatles songs of the 1960’s. Driven by influences of early rock and blues like Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, and Robbie Robertson from The Band, Dan tried h
is hand in many high school bands. In his late teens he joined a Ukrainian male chorus in Winnipeg where he learned to sing and harmonize in an ensemble. This satisfied both his musical and performing needs for some 25 years. Shortly after his move to the Okanagan, he connected with some really talented and likeminded musicians, from there they formed a seven piece band known as the Yard Katz. Dan teamed up with singer and guitarist Ron Weiten from the Yard Katz to form the duo Rootz Bound. Ron had his first real taste of music playing some of the local bars and clubs in his hometown Saskatchewan. He remembers that feeling of “being hooked” on performing– feeling the music and being around the music scene. Although Ron resonates more with classic rock, blues and folk, he enjoys all styles of music, and connects more with the song than the genre. Ron has been a member of several bands, most notable the Boogie Men and Kokomo both from the Saskatoon area, playing cover tunes, blues, rock and country inspired material. His love of Classic Rock and Blues has continued over the past five years as he regularly performs with a well-known local band, the Yard Katz. Ron joins the stage with fellow musician, Dan Gusztak to form the very talented duo, Rootz Bound.
