✨Neurofunctional Acupuncture✨

What is it?

Neurofunctional acupuncture is a western medicine approach to acupuncture. It focuses on targeting the nerves, muscles and joints that the needles are stimulating.

What does it do?

Depending on the injury or patient, our treatments can look very different. Some common goals of neurofunctional acupuncture are:
- decrease pain by targeting sensory nerves in the area of complaint
- increase recruitment of motor fibres in the muscle (helps improve muscle strength)
- diminish painful trigger points (muscle knots)
- balance our sympathetic nervous system (think fight or flight!) to promote quicker healing and decreased pain

But what about other types of acupuncture?

A traditional approach to acupuncture looks VERY different than the neurofunctional approach I take. Traditional acupuncture uses different philosophies, targets, and can treat many different conditions including mental health, visceral complaints, gastrointestinal complaints, and much more! If you have questions regarding traditional acupuncture, I highly recommend reaching out to Bir at . She is a phenomenal acupuncturist that I work with at and will be able to answer all your questions regarding traditional acupuncture!

So what’s going on in this picture?

Pictured here is one of my awesome running patients who strained her right hamstring while training for a half marathon at the end of the month. Myself and .bolton.pt (the running QUEEN) have been helping this patient return to training for her upcoming race.

In this photo you can see I am targeting trigger points in her lateral hamstrings, as well as along the posterior chain to help improve this patients mechanics after injury. I am also targeting the sciatic nerve (the top needle) to help modulate pain down the posterior leg. Combining acupuncture treatments with manual therapy and rehabilitation exercise has been helping get this patient great relief, and allowing her to gradually amp up her running again.

If you have any questions about neurofunctional acupuncture and if it could be an effective treatment option for you, shoot me a message!

Everyone meet GEORGIA! 🥰🐶

If you’ve been following my page for a while, you already know Ellie (on right, laying down). Ellie’s been with me for just over 4 years now and is the best girl!

If you’ve noticed I’ve been a bit quiet on here lately, it’s because I’ve been very busy tending to our newly adopted pup Georgia! Georgia (on left, sitting) is estimated to be about 2 years old, and is the most loving pup I have ever met! She is such a good girl, and is constantly begging for pets and snuggles and attention.

Her and Ellie are becoming best buds already, although they only seem to want the other one’s food 🙄 Georgia is Ellie’s bunny-hunting apprentice at the moment, and is doing a great job assisting chasing the rabbits out of the backyard (don’t worry, neither one of them is even CLOSE to catching one 😂)

I am so excited to have Georgia join our little family, and can’t wait to share her journey with you all! 😊
