Canada’s Agriculture Day was formally announced on June 1, 2016 with the inaugural celebration set for February 16, 2017. Since 2017, AgScape has been pleased to celebrate this important day honouring Canadian farmers and food producers through recognition and various initiatives.
🧑🌾 In 2020, we partnered with Farm & Food Care Ontario for “A Day in the Life of Our Farming & Food Heroes” where we heard from a sheep farmer (Circle R Lamb), Nature Fresh Farms tomato growers, a pig farmer (Ontario Pork), Hensall Co-op grain farmers, and a beekeeper (MacQuarrie Family Bees).
🐓 In 2023, we launched “Meat & Poultry Processing in Ontario,” a Teacher’s Guide for grades 7-12 developed with Meat & Poultry Ontario.
🐄 In 2024, we hosted a Virtual Field Trip at Gay Lea Dairy Museum.
🌱 In 2025, we hosted a Virtual Field Trip at Just Vertical, a hydroponic farm.
This year, we are excited to launch our Growing into Tomorrow: Canada's Agriculture Day Challenge for grades 1-4 students to explore agriculture and food literacy by discovering where their food comes from with our new From Seed to Salad Teacher Resource.

Earlier this week, we attended the Brock University Experience Expo and made meaningful connections with many students!
We were pleased to provide our career resources to students interested in the agriculture and food sector and those who are exploring these pathways for the first time. Thank you to Brock University for having us at your event!

🌱📣 We are excited to start the new year with a Teacher Ambassador (TA) Spotlight on Johanne Patry! Our TAs enrich Ontario classrooms with agriculture and food literacy through free, curriculum-linked workshops.
Johanne’s passion for agriculture took root while pursuing her diploma in agriculture at McGill University. During her time at McGill, she worked at the university farm as a guide for school and day camp groups touring the facility. In 1980, she started teaching secondary science and engineering, and later on, she became a teachers’ teacher and pedagogical counsellor at the elementary, secondary, college and university levels at once nationally and internationally. We are delighted to have Johanne on our team delivering in-person and virtual workshops in addition to sharing her expertise at our events across Ontario. Thank you so much Johanne for your inspiring work with AgScape!
