I grew up in Philadelphia, attended Penn State where I met my wife, Marie Blosh, and practiced law in California working on landlord-tenant, municipal, environmental and land use planning issues. I returned to school to earn Masters and Doctoral degrees in Library Science, and worked as a law librarian at UC Berkeley. After moving to London in 2001, I put my legal background to work for the community on various neighborhood planning issues, the ward redistribution case that resulted in our current 14 ward single member system, and the by-law regulating the cosmetic use of pesticides. I was appointed to the London Advisory Committee on Housing, which I chaired from 2006-2010. I also became an active member in my faculty association, serving on its Governing Board, Grievance Committee and as Association Secretary. I was honoured to receive the Dedicated Service Award from the Canadian Association of University Teachers for my service to the association. I served two terms on the University Senate and was elected by the faculty to the University’s Board of Governors, on which I currently serve. As a frequent participant in City Council committee meetings over the years, I understand council rules and procedures as well as the provincial Municipal, Planning and Heritage Acts. My awareness of the powers and limitations of municipalities under Ontario law and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms will be an asset to the council. I play the clarinet and piano with several community bands and live in Broughdale with my wife and our cats.
