🎥 PITCH VIDEO SPOTLIGHT
Congratulations to Leslie Bangamba, selected for the TELUS STORYHIVE Films: Three-Part Docuseries Edition from Red Deer, Alberta! 🎉
Leslie is bringing her project, "For the Roots", to life — a powerful three-part documentary exploring the history, identity and community woven into Black hair.
Black hair has never just been hair. It has been a map, a memory and a form of resistance.
"For the Roots" traces that history through one woman’s journey and the voices of a community in Red Deer, Alberta — from pre-colonial origins, to a time when the city had no salons, no products and little space for Black hair and Black community.
And today, that story continues to evolve: there are spaces, services, products and places where people can come together, feel seen, care for their hair and build community.
We’re excited to celebrate Leslie and the story she’s bringing forward. 🌱✨
