His musical journey began at the age eight when he began studying piano. He studied with the Royal Conservatory of Music completing all of the theory requirements and examinations as well as his grade 10 performance certificate. He joined various concert and jazz ensembles throughout high school and university and taught himself to play drums and a variety of other orchestral and band instruments
