Just popping on here to remind you all that we are thinking of you and holding space for everyone at this time 💜 We sure missed seeing all of your faces in May, but it will only make it that much more sweet when we can see you again! Gentle reminder to take care, and take things slow as things start to re-open!

Artificial intelligence yields new antibiotic: A deep-learning model identifies a powerful new drug that can kill many species of antibiotic-resistant bacteria 03/07/2020

Happy Saturday Ms Infinity fam! Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend so far! I thought what better way to start our Saturday then with some cool new science!

Artificial intelligence is a field of study that has become the talk of the town, and I have hopped on the band wagon along with many others! It's absolutely fascinating.

AI is an area of computer science that emphasizes the creation of intelligent machines that work and react like humans. AI technology is increasingly being used to support scientists and researchers. In other words, AI can cruise through tons of data, highlighting anomalies and detecting patterns that humans could never have spotted.

Recently, researchers used AI technology to identify a powerful new antibiotic compound. The computer model, which can screen more than a hundred million chemical compounds in a matter of days, is designed to pick out potential antibiotics that kill bacteria using different mechanisms than those of existing drugs.

In lab tests, the drug killed many of the world's most problematic disease-causing bacteria, including some strains that are resistant to all known antibiotics. COOL.

The weird, wonderful world of bioluminescence 05/01/2019

Edith Widder is the founder of the Ocean Research & Conservation Association which is dedicated to protecting aquatic ecosystems and the species they sustain. She helps design and invent new equipment to study bioluminescence to be able to observe deep-sea environments including, most recently, the first video ever recorded of the giant squid, Architeuthis, in its natural habitat.

So if you didn't think the ocean was cool enough already, take a few minutes and watch Edith Widder share her love of the remarkable species that create art even in the deep sea!

And just a reminder our annual conference is only a couple of weeks away! Registration is still open and the form can be completed with the link below or send us an email or message for more information! We look forward to seeing you on the 11th and stay tuned for more information :)

The weird, wonderful world of bioluminescence In the deep, dark ocean, many sea creatures make their own light for hunting, mating and self-defense. Bioluminescence expert Edith Widder was one of the first to film this glimmering world. At TED2011, she brings some of her glowing friends onstage, and shows more astonishing footage of glowing und...
