The Frank Slide in Crowsnest Pass, Alberta, is the site of Canada’s deadliest rockslide.

The Story

At 4:10 a.m. on April 29, 1903, approximately 44 million cubic metres of limestone broke away from Turtle Mountain, burying the mining town of Frank in about 100 seconds.

An estimated 70 to more than 90 people lost their lives, making it Canada’s deadliest rockslide. Some victims were never recovered and remain buried beneath the rocks to this day.
