So this happened, an author popped up on Amazon shamelessly publishing books that were re-written with AI to make the text superficially different, but functionally the same.

Even the covers are a rip-off.

I have reported the author to Amazon and I fully expect they will ban them, but this really highlights the danger of AI for authors, and how it is being used. AI can't write a decent book, but it can definitely re-write one. How do we even screen for that if the text has been fully re-written in a paraphrased version of the original? And how does copyright law protect us from that edge case? Very disturbing.

I also worry how many readers are accidentally re-reading paraphrased versions of books they already read!
