As acupuncturists who work with PMOS/PCOS regularly in clinic, this shift feels like very welcome news.

For years, the name “Polycystic O***y Syndrome” placed most of the focus on the ovaries, despite many patients experiencing symptoms that extend far beyond that:

* insulin resistance
* irregular ovulation
* fatigue
* acne
* inflammation
* blood sugar dysregulation
* fertility challenges
* nervous system and mental health impacts

Not everyone with the condition even has ovarian cysts.

The updated term, PMOS (Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome), better reflects the complex, whole-body nature of what so many women are actually experiencing.

We’re hopeful this shift leads to:

* earlier diagnosis
* broader conversations around hormonal health
* more comprehensive care
* and patients feeling more seen and understood in their symptoms
