🐱 Is your cat slowing down… or could it be arthritis?
Many people think it’s normal for cats to become less active as they age, but changes in mobility can actually be signs of arthritis.
Common signs include:
🐾 Hesitating before jumping
🐾 Sleeping more than usual
🐾 Difficulty using stairs
🐾 Missing the litter box because it’s harder to climb in
🐾 Grooming less (or over-grooming sore areas)
🐾 Becoming grumpier or less social
Cats are masters at hiding discomfort, which means arthritis often goes unnoticed for months—or even years.
The good news? There are several ways we can help improve comfort and mobility, including:
✔️ Pain management
✔️ Joint support supplements
✔️ Weight management
✔️ Environmental modifications at home
✔️ Rehabilitation and mobility support options
If you’ve noticed changes in your cat’s movement, don’t assume it’s “just old age.” A comfortable cat is a happier cat. ❤️

🐱💕 Happy National Hug Your Cat Day!
If your cat enjoys cuddles, today is the perfect excuse to give them a little extra love. And if your cat prefers admiration from a respectful distance? That’s okay too. 😸
Cats are experts at showing affection in their own unique ways:
🐾 Slow blinks
🐾 Head bumps
🐾 Following you from room to room
🐾 Curling up nearby
The best way to celebrate today is by showing your cat love in the way they appreciate most—whether that’s a gentle cuddle, a favourite treat, extra playtime, or simply sharing a sunny spot together.
Tell us about your cat! ⬇️
Are they a professional cuddler, or do they operate under a strict “look, don’t touch” policy?

🐾 A tired dog is often a happy dog.
Daily play isn’t just about burning off energy—it helps support your pet’s physical health, mental stimulation, and overall well-being.
Whether it’s a game of fetch, a walk around the neighbourhood, a puzzle toy, or some backyard sniffing time, regular enrichment can help reduce boredom and keep tails wagging all summer long. ☀️🎾
Remember to exercise safely during warmer weather:
✔️ Bring water
✔️ Avoid the hottest part of the day
✔️ Watch for signs of overheating
✔️ Take breaks when needed
Every pet is different, so choose activities that match your companion’s age, health, and energy level.
What’s your pet’s favourite way to play? Tell us below! 👇🐶🐱

🌧️ Rainy days can be tough on pets, too.
After several days of rain, you may notice changes in your pet’s routine. Some dogs are reluctant to go outside, activity levels can decrease, and pets with arthritis or mobility concerns may seem a little stiffer than usual.
A few ways to help during wet weather:
🐾 Keep walks shorter if your pet dislikes the rain
🐾 Add indoor enrichment such as food puzzles or training games
🐾 Dry paws thoroughly after outdoor trips
🐾 Watch for subtle signs of discomfort, especially in senior pets
🐾 Maintain regular routines as much as possible
Sometimes small changes in mobility, appetite, or behaviour are easy to overlook when everyone is spending more time indoors.
If you’ve noticed your pet slowing down or seeming less comfortable, we’re always happy to help.
Stay dry, Calgary! ☔🐶🐱

🐱 Cats are masters at hiding discomfort.
Unlike dogs, cats rarely make it obvious when something hurts. In the wild, showing weakness could make them vulnerable, so many cats continue their normal routines while quietly compensating.
Some signs can be surprisingly subtle:
• Hesitating before jumping
• Sleeping in different locations
• Grooming less (or more)
• Becoming less social
• Using stairs less often
• Changes in litter box habits
Many pet owners assume these changes are simply part of aging, but they can sometimes be early signs of arthritis, pain, or other health concerns.
If you’ve noticed your cat moving differently or behaving a little “off,” it’s worth paying attention. Small changes can tell us a lot.
What is one quirky habit your cat has that only you would notice if it changed? 🐾

Not every day at work looks the same—and that’s one of our favourite things about house-call veterinary medicine. ☀️🐾
Yesterday, Dr. Morgan, Joel, Renee, Windsor, and Truman took advantage of the beautiful weather and set up a temporary office outside.
One of the perks of being a mobile veterinary team is that our workplace is always changing. Some days we’re on the road, some days we’re helping pets in their homes, and some days we’re answering emails, coordinating appointments, and tackling admin work from the backyard.
Of course, Windsor and Truman were happy to supervise the entire operation. Their contributions mainly consisted of quality control, morale boosting, and ensuring nobody worked too hard.
Not a bad way to spend a workday. 💙

☀️🐾 HEAT WAVE MODE: ACTIVATED 🐾☀️
When the temperatures climb, our pets come up with some pretty creative ways to stay cool 😂
From starfishing on the cold tile floor…
To demanding ice cubes like tiny frozen treats…
To refusing walks unless there’s shade every 3 feet 😅
We want to know:
👇 What’s your pet’s funniest heat-wave behaviour?
Bonus points for photos 📸🐶🐱
While we’re all trying to beat the heat, remember:
💧 Fresh water at all times
🌳 Shade and cool resting spots
🚫 No hot pavement paws
🚗 Never leave pets in vehicles
⏰ Walks are best early morning or later evening
Stay safe out there, Calgary! ❤️

🐾 Things Your Pet Wishes You Knew 🐾
Your pet may not be able to talk, but they are communicating with you every single day. Sometimes the signs are subtle.
Here are a few things we wish more pet owners knew:
• Slowing down isn’t always “just aging”
• Bad breath can be a sign of dental disease
• Changes in appetite or thirst matter
• Anxiety can show up as “bad behaviour”
• Cats are very good at hiding pain
• Preventative care can catch issues early — before your pet is suffering
At Onward Veterinary Services, we believe veterinary care should feel calm, personalized, and accessible — right from the comfort of home. 🏡🐶🐱
If your pet has been acting “a little off,” trust your gut. We’re always happy to help guide you.
