♨️ Disaster movies was a staple of blockbuster cinema from mid 90's to late 2000's and there were plenty to choose from. These are my favorites from that time ♨️
🔹️ Armageddon (1998): Michael Bay brings his A-game with an ensemble cast led by Bruce willis in this epic blockbuster where a bunch of oil drilling/rigmen goes to space to blast an oncoming comet. Yeah, it is bonkers but very entertaining.
🔹️ Volcano (1997): There's a volcano underneath LA and it's about to blow. It is mayham at it's finest with Tommy Lee Jones providing his seriousness making thw whole experience real than it is. Visual effects were pretty good in this one.
🔹️ Day after tomorrow (2004): Roland Emmerichs finest distaster movie to date in my opinion talking about global warming and its disastrous effects on the world. It had the best blend of amazing CGI, cohesive story and characters you can care for.
🔹️Twister (1996-): Story about storm/tornado chasers with Bill paxton bringing his charm filled with realistic thrilling storm scenes. It never went over the top with it's action, hence a classic in my eyes.
🔹️Deepwater horizon (2016): Based on a true oil rig disaster, Peter Berg directs the movie with respect to ones who lost their lives and lived through this horrific experience. Very grounded and realistic cinema experience and Mark Whalberg with fellow cast gives a great performance.
🔹️ The Core (2003): What if the earths core solidifies and earth stop spinning? sounds bonkers but thats the basic premise of this disaster flick and it's a premise that's very unique and I am yet to see replicated.
🔹️ Perfect Storm (2000): Ocean is a very scary place when it's calm, what happens if you get caught in the storm of the century? Wolfgang Peterson directed movie with the ensamble cast led by George Clooney had a tight script and great visual effects to create an awesome yet terrifying disaster movie.

🥲Ah Horror movies- the one genre I actively avoid because I am a scardy cat 🐈 But these franchises did make me suck it up and watch them because they were too good to miss ♨️
🔹️ Halloween (1978-): Michael Myers is the most iconic slasher in my opinion in the horror genre. While the movies varied in quality, I appreciated it didn't use too much gore or nudity in any of the movies.
🔹️ The Exorcist (1973-): Another classic in this genre of horror, the first movie set the bar very high with its quality that the sequels/prequels never reach its original heights.
🔹️Final destination (2000-): "death" trying to kill survivors of a fatal accident in most creative yet grusome way possible. In my opinion, this unforseen force is the scariest antagonist of all horror movies I've seen.
🔹️ The Conjuring (2013-2021): A modern classic that is truly terrifying that expanded to a franchise with multiple spin offs including Annabelle series & the Nun series. Shows how potent the characters & legacies they created during its original run.
🔹️ Quiet place (2018-): A truly terrifying monster who hunts us if we made the slightest sound- John Karsinski created a character driven beautiful movie that expand the lore with it's subsequent movies beautifully.
🔹️ The grudge (2004-2020): Based on a Japanese movie about a vengeful spirit, I've lost numerous nights of peaceful sleep after watching this. The atmospheric horror set during all 4 installments were very unsettling, better not be faint of heart when watching this.
🔹️ The thing (1982-2011): Most horror fans consider the John Carpenters '82 movie as one of the best horror movies put to cinema. The practical effects on display is truly terrifying of the mimicking alien being. The 2011 prequel while using more CGI does justice for the legacy of the brand.
