When you see… and more importantly… hear, just how incredible a guitar player Mr. Kyle Johnson has become, in what is a relatively short period of time… and you couple that with the fact that one can easily observe that the most comfortable place for him to be is onstage with a guitar in his hands, or teaching others how to play this wonderfully mystical instrument… it almost seems like this young
GUITAR SLINGER was literally BORN to PLAY GUITAR!!! Kyle grabbed on to his first guitar at 16, and simply put… he hasn’t let go! He’s come such a long way in the last 10 years, and is now seen as a very accomplished player in the Calgary Music Scene, with his band ATOMS and the VOID!!! https://www.facebook.com/Atoms-And-The-Void-1525804531073…/…
Kyle started playing guitar at the age of 16, and while late by some standards… he has been playing for about 10 years now… and when one plays and practices religiously for 6 to 8 hours a day like Kyle admittedly has, the results are reflective of that kind of passion! KYLE’S CAREER DISCOGRAPHY
• Started playing guitar at 16
• Started playing live, and composing his own music at the tender age of 17.
• Took guitar lessons at the A.S.O.M. (Axe School of Music) for 3 years.
• Took private lessons for a year.
• Applied for, and was AXEcepted into the great music program at Red Deer College… which is an amazing accomplishment considering he went in not even knowing how to read sheet music. In his three years there… Kyle learned all about music theory, jazz guitar ear training, piano, choir, composition, musical analysis, recording, jazz combo, big band, sight reading, and hundreds of different scales and chords while there; he had the proverbial musical sink of music thrown at him... and he absorbed it all in! He graduated successfully in 2015 and received his music diploma, which is a huge huge AXEcomplishment; one he brings with him every day when he teaches other young minds!!!
• Some of his biggest influences read like a who’s who of guitar heroes; Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert, and Eric Johnson just to name a few… and career highlights thus far: Having the opportunity to jam live with Steve Vai at two different VAI MASTERCLASSES; first in 2009, and second in 2015.
• Today… Kyle finds himself writing and playing a great variety of styles and genres to further complete himself as a guitar player. He is comfortable playing rock, metal, blues, funk, fusion, jazz, soul, R&B, reggae, and folk… Can you say WHEW?!? Even though Kyle has spent the last year in sales at AXE, it was teaching he originally applied for… and so he's finally come home to what he really wants to do… teach young minds how to coax magic out of their instruments!
