Illegal Immigrant Sentenced to Less Than 5 Years After Deadly California Crash That Killed Three
A California judge sentenced Jashanpreet Singh, 21, to 4 years and 8 months in prison after a 2024 crash that killed three people and injured several others on Interstate 10 in Ontario.
Prosecutors said Singh, who was driving a commercial truck, was under the influence of drugs when he slammed into stopped traffic without braking, triggering a devastating multi-vehicle crash.
Authorities also said Singh was living in the U.S. illegally despite holding a valid California commercial driver’s license. Following his arrest, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) lodged an immigration detainer.
The sentence has sparked heated debate online, with critics arguing it is far too lenient given the loss of life, while others note that sentencing is based on the specific charges, plea agreements, and California law.
