Pandemic response and the importance of quarantine is top of mind for many people right now, and thereโ€™s been a lot on social media lately about the 1918 flu which killed 50 - 100 million people globally.

Did you know? Dr. C. S. Mahood, the pathologist for the City of Calgary during the 1918 outbreak, was credited with saving THOUSANDS of lives in Alberta. He recognised the threat returning home with WWI veterans, placing returning soldiers in quarantine, encouraging social distancing practices, and limiting public events.

Tragically, when the flu virus returned in 1922 for a brief reemergence, his wife succumbed to the illness, and he was widowed. Subsequently, he moved from their home in Cliff Bungalow, and came to live in unit 306 of The Anderson.

He is shown here with two nurses in 1936.
