Check out what's happening with Northlight this summer

Today we were at the Royal Canadian Artillery Museum in Shilo, and we had an excellent tour by one of their summer students. I heard some excellent questions coming from the kids today, and their exhibits were very interesting (I had not been before) and we learned a lot, definitely worth a stop if you are looking for something to do!

Our Fairy Garden Workshop was a wonderful success! πŸŒ±πŸ§šβ€β™€οΈ

Thank you so much Jen Houselander for hosting such a fantastic workshop! We learned about companion planting, which vegetables grow well together, and how to plan a garden that supports sustainable food production. We also discovered which herbs can help keep pesky bugs away naturally.

Then the fun really began! The children designed and created their own magical fairy garden planter pots, using their creativity and imagination to build unique miniature worlds. Every child had the opportunity to express themselves and showcase their individuality.

We got our hands dirty digging in the soil, planted seeds, and explored how gardens grow. The children also painted mini pots and planted beans to take home, allowing them to continue learning and growing at home.

We kicked off the day with educational board games, making it a perfect blend of learning, creativity, and hands-on fun. What a fantastic way to spend the day creating colourful gardens and lasting memories! 🌼🌿✨

Congratulations to our little ones for graduating Call of the Wild Forest School! Monday's session was awesome! We had a great hike to the river and learned all about the different fish and birds in the area. The kiddies received a list of items to scavenger for on their trip. After our hour journey, we enjoyed some popsicles and snacks before heading to check in on the chickens once more. The kids all agreed this was one of their favourite features of our Call of the Wild series - watching the chickens grow. A quick reflection on our time throughout this series and a take home dandelion painting craft wrapped things up this season. We can't wait to do this series again as it was a great hit!

Thanks again to Katherine Jay for heading up this workshop series and of course to all the families that came out to participate.

🌿 Forest School Day 2 was full of adventure, movement, creativity, and connection! 🐝🌊

We played a fun animal tag game all about what different creatures eat, explored the pond while learning about species that thrive in water environments, built homemade bee hotels, and talked about the important role bees play in our world. We also checked in on our growing chickens, enjoyed snack time together, and reflected through journaling. πŸ£πŸ““

One of the most beautiful parts of this series has been watching the older children naturally support and encourage the younger ones.

πŸ’› Hands-on learning, mixed ages, outdoor exploration, and genuine community connection β€” this is exactly what Northlight is all about.

We’re so grateful for this growing community and already can’t wait for Day 3 at the end of May! 🌲✨

What a great Day 1 of Call of the Wild Forest School!

We did a fun fire and animal identifying chasing game, learned about different types of trees and their benefits, went on a nature walk, collected walking sticks to carve and decorate, painted, drew, journaled what we learned, mud crafts, met the different types of chickens all while playing and enjoying the natural evolution of learning through fun! This is what school can look like.

Thanks to everyone that came out for day one of this series. Can't wait for more learning and fun next week.

Check out our events tab to stay tuned on what Northlight is up to next.
