Elmer Nah Found Guilty in Ramnarace Triple Murder Case

After years before the courts, Elmer Nah has been found guilty of the murders of John, David, and Vivian Ramnarace.

This afternoon, in a packed High Court courtroom, Justice Nigel Pilgrim delivered the guilty verdict, also finding Nah guilty of the attempted murder of Yemi Alberto.

The case stems from one of Belize’s most high-profile murder investigations, which resulted in the deaths of three members of the Ramnarace family and left another victim injured.

A sentencing hearing for Nah has been scheduled for June 18.

PM Confirms Oscar Arnold as New Foreign Affairs CEO

Prime Minister John Briceño has confirmed that Oscar Arnold will officially take over as Chief Executive Officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on June 2, with the transition beginning June 1.

Speaking on Open Your Eyes, the Prime Minister said Arnold is already working alongside outgoing CEO Amalia Mai to prepare for the handover.

Arnold previously served as Belize’s ambassador to Mexico, a role Briceño described as successful.

Meanwhile, Amalia Mai will remain in government service and is expected to take up a diplomatic post in Mexico with additional responsibilities for SICA, Argentina, and a non resident ambassadorship to Brazil.

The announcement follows weeks of speculation surrounding leadership changes within the ministry. Briceño stated that Mai’s departure was not a dismissal, explaining that the move came after discussions between Mai and Foreign Minister Francis Fonseca following the completion of her one year contract extension.

Belmopan Doctor Shot and Killed While Driving with Daughter

Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a Belmopan doctor identified as Naun Bonilla, who was killed this morning in the Las Flores area of Belmopan.

Reports indicate the incident happened shortly after 8:30 a.m. while Bonilla was driving with his 5 year old daughter seated in the back of the vehicle. Authorities say a white vehicle allegedly blocked his path before a masked gunman exited and opened fire.

The shooter reportedly fled the scene immediately after the attack.

Bonilla died from his injuries while his daughter escaped without physical harm. The child was taken to the hospital for observation after suffering emotional distress following the incident.

Police are now searching for the getaway vehicle as investigations continue.

The Belize National Blood Transfusion Services has launched an extended-hours blood donation drive in Belize City to help strengthen the nation’s blood supply for medical emergencies and patient care.

The drive runs from May 25 to May 31, with daily opening hours from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the National Blood Transfusion Service on the corner of Leslie and Meighan Avenues inside the Belize Diagnostic Centre compound.

Officials are encouraging healthy Belizeans between the ages of 18 and 65 to donate and help save lives. The Blood Bank is also inviting organizations and large groups to participate in the effort.
