Hendrik Hubert Maria Haesen (°1879 - 28 March 1918) was a teacher at the municipal school and made himself very creditable with the identification, exhumation and reburial of war victims, mainly soldiers.
Hendrik is seen here at his worktable (25/8/15), working on the identification of objects that belonged to deceased soldiers. Hendrik will still die during the war.
After the war, his mother applied on behalf of her late son to obtain compensation for war damages. She gave as her reason that her son’s death was caused by “a contagious disease, contracted from the excavation of 916 persons”.
