On 12th May, 2026, Bangladesh’s first-ever institutionally backed venture capital fund, “ONKUR — Bangladesh Fund I,” a USD 35 million fund backed by 39 commercial banks, was launched.
At the launch, LightCastle Partners curated and moderated a high-level panel discussion on “Catalyzing Institutional Capital for Bangladesh’s Next Growth Wave,” with Bijon Islam, CEO & Co-founder of LightCastle Partners, moderating the session. Bringing together global investors, local financial institutions, regulators, and founders to examine how institutional capital can scale the country’s innovation ecosystem.
The session explored what it will take to bridge this gap, from governance and fund structuring to building investor confidence, enabling co-investment, and strengthening founder readiness for growth-stage capital. As Bangladesh moves toward more structured venture financing, platforms like ONKUR signal an important shift toward mobilizing domestic capital at scale.
