Ever wonder why some reels pop off while others flop? I analyzed every metric for a week. The results surprised me.
The Numbers
Total Views: 2,072 across 6 reels (I skipped Day 6 β€” big mistake)
Peak Day: Day 3 hit 468 views (160% jump from Day 1)
The Crash: Day 6 dropped to 124 views after missing one post
What Actually Worked βœ…
Reel 1 & 2 were the winners:
14s and 13s average watch time (above the 10-second threshold)
Strong engagement ratios (22% and 56%)
Consistent retention kept viewers watching
Reel 7 had crazy engagement β€” 66% interaction rate. But average watch was only 7 seconds. People engaged early, then scrolled.
The lesson? Hook them fast, but give them a reason to stay.
What Killed My Momentum πŸ”΄
Missing Day 6: Skipping one day tanked views by 69%. The algorithm punishes inconsistency.
Reels 3, 4 & 5: All under 10-second watch time. Strong hooks, but weak follow-through. Viewers lost interest before the payoff.
The 3 Rules I'm Following Now
1. Consistency Beats Perfection One missed day cost me serious momentum. Post daily, even if it's not perfect.
2. The 10-Second Rule If your average watch time is below 10 seconds, fix your hook or pacing. Compare Reel 1 (14s) vs Reel 7 (7s) β€” both had engagement, but only one held attention.
3. Engagement β‰  Success High likes mean nothing if people scroll after 5 seconds. The algorithm rewards watch time, not just taps.
What I'm Changing
πŸ”Ή Stronger mid-reel hooks to push past 10 seconds
πŸ”Ή Daily posting (no exceptions)
πŸ”Ή Front-loading value β€” no more "wait for it" content
The Bottom Line
Going viral isn't the goal. Consistent 200-300 view reels with 35%+ retention and strong engagement build real momentum.
Day 3's peak happened because Days 1 and 2 set the foundation. The algorithm rewards patterns, not one-hit wonders.

Your turn: What's your biggest struggle with reels β€” getting views or keeping people watching? πŸ‘‡
