Exemplary Friendship: Magura's Sarowar and Shyamal Remain Unmarried for 56 Years to Protect Their Bond
District Correspondent, Magura: In this modern era of materialism, where relationships often break down over petty self-interests, two friends have set a rare example of making the ultimate sacrifice to uphold the dignity of friendship. Merely out of fear that marriage might diminish the depth of their bond or create a distance between them, they have crossed 56 springs of life remaining unmarried.
Golam Sarowar and Shyamal Dutt, two residents of Magura, are receiving widespread praise across society and social media for setting such a unique example of friendship.
Golam Sarowar is a Muslim, while Shyamal Dutt belongs to the Sanatan (Hindu) community. Despite differences in institutional and social rituals, the bond between these two friends has been identical since childhood. Growing up, playing, and studying together, their relationship has only grown deeper over time. Sarowar and Shyamal stand as a shining example that religion can never be a barrier to the union of two hearts.
Generally, after a certain age, people feel the urge for a family or domestic life. However, the thought process of these two friends was entirely different. They realized that marriage might lead to separate families, households, and distinct responsibilities. The arrival of a new person into those families could cause a rift or psychological distance in their pure childhood friendship.
Fearing that the division of time or family busyness might ruin their spiritual connection, they made an unprecedented decision to remain unmarried forever and spend their lives together, driven by that deep sense of love.
Taking this decision to remain unmarried was by no means easy in a social context. They had to ignore various questions, sarcasms, and family pressures from society, relatives, and people around them. Yet, they never let go of each other's hands despite all adversities. They have shared all the joys, sorrows, happiness, and pain of life among themselves. Passing so many years of life, even as they stand on the threshold of old age, they remain together, shielding and caring for one another.
Recently, a unique and emotional video clip depicting the lives of these two friends was published on several media outlets and social media pages, going viral instantly on the internet. The story of their sacrifice has deeply touched people's hearts. Many netizens commented, "This is not just a story; it is a selfless testament of love."
The story of these two friends from Magura proves that not all relationships in the world can be measured by bloodlines or religious circles; some relationships endure solely on the foundation of trust. These two bosom friends wish to spend the remaining days of their lives as complements to one another, with smiles on their faces.

A festive atmosphere has been observed at the lower courts in Dhaka surrounding the polling process.
On the first day, held Wednesday, a total of 2,759 lawyers exercised their voting rights. Chief Election Commissioner Md. Borhan Uddin said voter turnout was comparatively lower due to rain, but expressed satisfaction with the process and hoped that participation would increase on the second day.
According to election commission sources, candidates aligned with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and the Gono Odhikar Parishad are contesting under the “Blue Panel,” formally known as the Bangladesh Nationalist Lawyers Unity Panel. Meanwhile, candidates supported by Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and the Jatiya Nagorik Party are contesting under the “Green Panel,” also referred to as the Unity Council.
Each panel has fielded 23 candidates, bringing the total number of contestants to 46, along with 8 independent candidates competing for various posts.
Following recent political changes, candidates backed by the Awami League are not officially participating in this election. There are allegations that several lawyers aligned with the party had intended to run as independent candidates but were unable to do so due to lack of permission.
