📉 Trump Shakes Markets: Jobs Crash, Stagflation Fears & Tariff Tensions Surge
Markets have been thrown into chaos as political drama and weak data send shockwaves across the global economy:
🇺🇸 Trump Fires BLS Chief
In an extraordinary move, Trump sacked the head of the US Bureau of Labor Statistics after job numbers came in well below expectations. Just 73,000 jobs were added in July, with massive downward revisions for May and June.
👉 Economists now warn of stagflation, rising inflation, falling job growth, and slowing demand.
📈 Inflation Rising, Rate Cuts Expected
The Fed's preferred inflation gauge climbed again, even as growth sputtered. This mix of hot inflation and weak jobs data is increasing pressure for a September rate cut.
💰 Gold Surges on Safe-Haven Demand
Amid market uncertainty, gold jumped nearly 2% to $3,347/oz (USD), as investors flocked to safety.
🌏 India Tariff Fallout: “From Tense to Turbulent”
India has been blindsided by Trump’s 25% tariff targeting its exports, one of the harshest in this new trade round.
He slammed India’s trade practices as “obnoxious” and punished New Delhi for its Russian alliances.
Compared to Bangladesh (20%), Pakistan (19%), and Vietnam (20%), India got a worse deal.
🇮🇳 Indian business leaders now fear profit erosion and job cuts, calling the move “a blunt-force political message.”
Social media in India erupted in protest, while policymakers scramble to salvage talks.

📉 Inflation Slows to 2.1% in June Quarter
The latest CPI print shows inflation easing again, down from 2.4% in March to 2.1% in June. The RBA’s preferred measure (trimmed mean) also fell to 2.7%.
💬 Economists say the data strengthens the case for an August rate cut, with more cuts expected into 2026.
🏦 Despite the softening, the RBA kept rates on hold this month, waiting for more data. Unemployment has risen to 4.3%, adding pressure for monetary easing.
Is a rate cut now a done deal?

📢 Australia is one of the few developed countries where households hold more money in term deposits than in investments.
💰 That’s nearly $1.5 trillion in cash sitting in savings accounts, term deposits and offset accounts earning relatively low returns and waiting for a better opportunity.
And here’s why that matters now…
📉 With interest rate cuts around the corner, this excess cash is set to flow back into the share market as investors chase higher returns. Not all at once but with each rate drop, expect a wave of renewed market participation.
📈 History shows cash has significantly underperformed other asset classes:
• Cash: 4.2% p.a. over 30 years
• Bonds: 5.6%
• Property: 7.8%
So while cash may feel “safe,” staying on the sidelines could mean missing the next leg up in the market.
👀 For investors, this is a critical window:
The market is primed for inflows, valuations remain attractive, and every rate cut increases the appeal of equities.
💡 Whether you’re sitting on cash or already invested, now’s the time to reassess your asset mix and make sure you’re positioned to benefit.
