to establish a meeting place for women. The aims and objectives of The Women’s Powder Room are:
• To promote, enhance and maintain the welfare, education and cultural needs of women in the Shire of Kalamunda and surrounding areas.
• To provide a safe and inclusive space for women to meet and share experiences, to gain knowledge and skills, thus reducing social isolation and associated problems.
•
To promote greater awareness of the needs and issues of women in the community.
• To provide the appropriate consultation on community issues and encourage community participation.
• To build partnerships with service providers.
• Share selective skills within the group across cultures. Women in our society are often the last ones to be looked after as they put their children and partners first. Women also suffer major health issues, mental illness, loneliness, depression. The Women’s Powder Room will be a place that women can come and learn how to manage whatever they are going through; or escape the four walls. Sometimes just talking to a total stranger in a safe environment, might be “just what is needed”. We plan to have a variety of guest speakers from who will offer advice on an array of practical issues such as –
- Money management – budgeting, investment, superannuation etc.
- Career Opportunities – Thinking about getting back into the workforce? Listening to a guest speaker over a cup of coffee/tea may just be the motivation and confidence needed.
- Parenting - Young women with their babies who need information about being a mum for the first time. Information from N’gala may help.
- Personal Relationships - New women in the community who need to meet others.
- Language Classes - Maybe English speaking classes.
- The FIFO Lifestyle – FIFO workers and partners of FIFO workers.
- Networking - Opportunity for business women to meet and network and provide a mentoring role. The Women’s Powder Room will be a not for profit, grass roots incorporated community organisation. (Incorporated December 2013). The services provided by the centre will be initiated to meet the needs of women living in the Shire of Kalamunda and the electorate of Hasluck
There will be no age barriers and women young and old, from all cultures will be welcome. The Women’s Powder Room will be accessible free of charge to those wishing to attend on a casual basis. Special forums or guest speaker sessions may attract a gold coin donation. Ladies interested in having voting rights at the AGM or at Committee and Sub Committee meetings, will need to be financial members. Inaugural Committee
We are seeking committed community women with knowledge and skills that could be used in managing this facility and its programs in providing a mentoring role with members
