Today, we witnessed a truly historic moment for Western Australia.
The new Assisted Reproductive Technology and Surrogacy Act 2025 has officially passed through WA parliament. This is a huge win for inclusivity, fairness, and the future of modern families here in WA.
This change means single people, same-s*x couples, transgender and inters*x folks now have the same opportunity to build a family as anyone else — something so many in our community have long been fighting for. This is more than a legislative update, its recognition that families come in every shape and size, and they all deserve support.
What happens next:
The new laws will come into effect over the next 6-18-months, ensuring a smooth rollout, so all families and clinics are ready when the reforms take effect.
