Do you know what happens to your family trust when you die?
It all depends on the trust deed that created the family trust in the first place (and every variation that followed), whether there are successor provisions built in and whether they're effective, and then how those provisions operate with your Will.
So even though the shares in your corporate trustee might pass via your Wills to your chosen beneficiaries, the ultimate controller of your family trust (and decider of who benefits from it) is not the trustee but the person that has the power to hire/fire the trustee (often called the 'appointor').
For the 'Charming Family' their home is owned by their trust so passing control of the trust to the right person is critical.
