Four years with my bestest girl.

I remember the day we met so vividly. I spent the afternoon walking around trying to find her, but all the dogs were too big and boisterous. I went back to the ladies in the admin building to say thanks for letting me walk around, and they yelled WAIT - we have ONE MORE but she’s NOT READY to be out in the kennels yet. I walked to a cordoned off area and waited, a little sad, thinking it’s okay - it wasn’t meant to be today, I would come back another time. I sat down on this old couch, covered in blankets, and in she came. Anxious and wary, but curious. The biggest smile on her face. She was skin and bones, only 9 months old and had just been spayed so she had a comically big cone around her bony neck. She licked my hand. I knew I had found her. We got all the paperwork done, the ladies gave me a bed and a harness, and we got in the car and had some drive through fries on the way home.

What a privilege it is to love her and to be loved by her and take care of her. It’s been a journey learning her quirks and triggers, and hasn’t always been easy especially thinking about the way she was treated before ending up in the rescue, but if you’re ever looking to add a furry friend to your family, pls consider adopting. 💜
