When making up a face which is textured by stubble, scarring or ageing a primer is a MUST for creating smooth application of foundation and contour. Think of primer as the plaster work before painting. If the plastering has lumps and bumps it will be so obvious when the paint is applied. A primer fills all those areas so the foundation can sit beautifully on top.
