BrickNetty are Netty & Jess, a creative couple who live in Melbourne, Australia.

They make all kinds of art using LEGO elements, with a focus on pieces which celebrate the LGBTIQA+ community. 🌈

ARTIST SPOTLIGHT!!

Qweer was started by the incredibly talented Josh (he/they) - from their tiny, tiny, tiny… tiny New York apartment before the pandemic… like literally the week before.

I am always SO IMPRESSED by how they tie-dye and screen print all of their garments themselves!! Trust me, I have tried it myself - and it is HAAARRRRDD.
They also embroider all of their super cool caps themself!!

So clever and so talented!! ✨🤩 You can also buy their rad merch online, so make sure you check out their website too!

"When I went to buy Pride merch, I realised the big retail chains only had bland mass-market merch on offer (and only during one month of the year!!!)

What if I could create an independent label that had all artwork designed and produced by, do I dare say... a q***r person? What if it was available... all year? What if we were to eliminate the isolating binary clothing sections and just provide clothes for... everyone?

Three years later we are still here and heaps Qweerer!"

I am so honoured to introduce my dear friend Kira Simpson, a proud q***r Gamilaraay yinarr, and to support her in showcasing "wii-ma-li" (lighting the fire), her first solo exhibition.

The exhibition will run through NAIDOC week and beyond, 7th to 21st July, with the exhibition party taking place on Friday 12th July from 6pm.

"My name is Kira Simpson and I am a q***r Gamilaraay yinnar (woman) from Walgett, NSW.

The exhibition ‘wii-ma-li’ (lighting the fire) reflects my journey as an artist during my travels across Australia as well as this year’s NAIDOC Week theme ‘Keep The Fire Burning! Blak, Loud And Proud.’ ‘Wii-ma-li’ signifies my first solo exhibition as an artist lighting the fire in and for the q***r community of Narrm, Melbourne who I have grown to call my family.

My artistic practice encompasses a variety of mediums and techniques, reflecting my connection to both tradition and innovation. Current outlets for my craft are weaving, painting, pen art, sewing, and candle making.

Currently, I create jewellery with natural & man made textiles such as echidna quills, emu feathers & raffia under my business Kira Design Australia. When I am not weaving or crafting accessories, I live stream my artwork on Twitch under the pseudonym ‘pr1z9’ so viewers can watch me create art in real time."

Kira and How Exciting acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land on which we live and work, the Wurundjeri & Boonwurrung people of the Kulin Nation. We pay respect to elders past, present and emerging, acknowledging the contributions they make to the life of this city and this region. Sovereignty was never ceded.
