#Celluloid dolls are made from an early type of plastic.

The one on the left is known as Little Big John or sometimes Baby John. These dolls were made in Japan around 1930 to 1941.

I don't know much about the baby doll on the right. It's a smaller baby from the same era. Little Big John is wearing a woollen hand knitted romper. The baby is dressed in a vintage fine cotton smocked dress.

I didn't go looking for these 2 dolls. They were part of an old lady's collection. I went to collect 2 other vintage dolls and I felt sorry for them! She said no-one wanted them. It's a bit sad that these lovely dolls have fallen out of favour.

They are quite fragile and need keeping safe but they are so beautiful displayed in vintage or antique baby clothing. They are an important part of doll history and worth preserving.

The large dolls on the left and right are #Celluloid dolls from the 1930s. I went to collect one and came home with three! Ooooooops! 🤪

The little one in the middle is one of mine, sculpted from #paperclay. Her hair is flax, which is the plant used to make linen. 🌾Flax is one of the oldest textile fibres. This little doll was inspired by the English wooden dolls of the 1700s.

The collection is growing! I went for a little drive to save a Celluloid doll from certain death and came home with three, haha!

These 3 Celluloid dolls were made in the 1930s. The small middle doll is one I made and based on the English wooden dolls of the 1700s. The doll next to her is a Dean's rag doll from the 1930s also.
