Beyond The Hive

After months and months of testing at all our apiaries we struck our first detection of varroa on our site in the southern fleurieu peninsula. We move into the treatment stage now and hopefully with a cold winter, treatments will be sufficient to get us on the right foot for spring . We will be crossing our fingers as we know it will be a tough ride from now on.

A late nectar flow for us this season but allready looking better then the last which yielded 0kg of honey for us.
Opening boxes and seeing honey stores full is great news for all our customers.

Its been a very busy few months for us with Splits, Springs checks, swarm retrievals and varroa tests. Varroa is slowly creeping closer to our apiary sites in the Adelaide Hills and Fleurieu Peninsula which is going to test us, there is no denying that but we will see how it goes.
The flow looks to have ramped up again so we should have some delicious honey very soon.
In the meantime, how is this cheeky swarm where we were asked if we could help out the home owner in removing the swarm for their bird nesting box.

🐝 Bee Rescue at a Rural Property! 🐝

We recently visited a rural property where a colony of bees had made themselves right at home — inside the walls of a shed! While it’s always amazing to see how resourceful bees can be, hives in the wrong spot can cause structural damage, pose safety risks, and make it difficult for landowners to go about their day.

That’s where we come in! At Beyond the Hive, we safely and ethically remove and relocate wild bee colonies to a proper apiary environment. This not only protects the property and its occupants, but also ensures the bees continue to thrive — doing what they do best: pollinating and producing beautiful, local honey 🍯

The best part? From this one removal, we were able to create two healthy new hives, giving these bees a fresh start and helping us strengthen our local pollinator population.
