I’m about being fearless by taking on our government’s policies. My mission is to cut through the nonsense, putting our Australians first. As a business owner in Warwick for over 3 years and a resident since 2008, I consider myself very fortunate to live and work in our region. I have been dismayed, and saddened by media reports and social media coverage, at the amount of political division betwee
n our “elected members” and their inability to progress this community forward. This is my first time running for the position, and now more than ever, I think it’s time…it’s time to bring in new leadership, progressive thinking, and most importantly, progressive action in consultation with the community. I believe my experience in business and a number of years as a senior manager with the Southern Downs Regional Council will provide the community with a progressive and sustainable outcomes. For our community’s growth, we must adopt a conservation-minded community approach, progressive agenda if we are to avoid significant rate rises, servicing debt levels, decreased services to the community and the monetary expenditures associated with these matters. There has been no real push to increase the Council’s revenue base. It’s time for our community to actively pursue and entice corporations and businesses, yet maintain our heritage that offer jobs to locate to our community. There has been no follow through on handling the increased costs in providing core services to our community. I will advocate on behalf of the community to work closely with the Council’s Chief Executive Officer to ensure there is operational reform. By politically polarizing issues, this has divided our current “elected members” and they have come to an impasse in making decisions that could lead to a more positive direction for our community. The Southern Downs Regional Council, all working together with our community, can create and ensure a shared and sustainable future for our growing communities. Our elected members’ jobs should be to ensure our community’s economic growth, promote a positive environment for families, youths, residents to live in, and businesses to grow in. We have what it takes to make this a thriving, economically viable, sustainable environment for our families, youths, residents and visitors. I look forward to discussing issues with community members in the lead up to the election in March 2016.
