Expired for 16 years! And yet the Santos sign is still up at Adelaide University. These students, staff and campaigners are calling for it to be taken down.
“We will look back at a public university, like Adelaide University, promoting big gas on one of its buildings in the same way that we now look back at big to***co sponsoring sporting events” said Dr Meg Good from Australian Conservation Foundation.
Student Tim Pickering is right, we can’t normalise fossil fuel sponsorships, particularly of institutions like Adelaide University that are the homes of education and have a “commitment to sustainability ”.
Adelaide University is starting anew after a huge merger. Right now they are considering renaming this building and removing the Santos name, over 16 years after the sponsorship with the fossil fuel company ended.
We stand with staff and student and encourage Adelaide University to embrace a new start and dump Santos from the Petroleum Engineering Building!
