E-SCOOTER IN ADELAIDE - ONE MORE FATALITY IS ONE TOO MANY

Adelaide’s e-scooter "trial" is a clear example of revenue and “green image” taking priority over real public safety.

Pedestrians, especially parents with prams, the elderly, and wheelchair users, are being pushed aside in spaces meant for them.

Meanwhile, polished messaging from tech companies paint a very different picture from what people experience on our streets every day.

Spend a few days walking through the city and the risks are obvious.

E-scooters and e-bikes are not the same as traditional cycling, and calling them “active transport” is misleading. Safety must come first — not branding, not revenue.

FAIRER AND MORE BALANCED REPRESENTATION FOR OUR DIVERSE COMMUNITY

We need a fairer and more balanced way to represent every ratepayer, resident, and business in our city, not just the loudest or most organised voices in the community.

There are also important questions about how communities are represented at the council, state, and federal levels.

Many members of these communities have shared a common concern: they do not want to be seen only as cultural groups for festivals, lion dances, or ceremonial appearances. They want genuine representation and a real voice in decisions that affect their daily lives, including how council services are delivered and how their rates and fees are used.

While the ’s vote-harvesting controversy may now be behind us, the lessons should not be forgotten.

Any new rules must protect fairness, transparency, and inclusiveness to ensure every individual is welcomed to participate in the democratic process and that the core values of Australian democracy are upheld.

Former Lord Mayor Dr Alfred Huang AM paid a special visit to the Adelaide Town Hall this morning.

It was fabulous to catch up with Alfred and inspect his official portrait, beautifully completed by Tsering Hannaford and now on display along the Lord Mayor's Walk.

Alfred, who served in the role between 2000 and 2003, generously donated the portrait to the City of Adelaide.

Upon his election in 2000, he was Australia's first Chinese-born Lord Mayor and became a key player in promoting the city to the Asia Pacific.

DIESEL PRICE UPDATE 239.9 ON TUESDAY 10 MARCH 2026

Fuel is already around 239¢ per litre after the long weekend with no sign coming down.

The Commonwealth Government should suspend the 51.6¢ fuel excise for one month, with the State Government stepping in to support as well.

Businesses can’t wait until after the state election. Rising fuel costs are crippling the transport and trucking industry, including and the sector. Immediate relief is needed now.

Rather than playing the blame game on retailers for price gouging or blaming the public for panic buying, governments should act by setting a reference fuel price for metro and regional servos, based on supply and oil reserves, with serious penalties, including losing their fuel supply licence, for those who breach it.

Even South Korea, a country that imports almost all of its oil, has introduced a fuel price cap to help citizens from rising prices. Australia should consider similar action now.
