Elite mindset. You may be an elite or high achiever but don’t necessarily have an elite mindset and possess limiting beliefs.

When was the last time you gave up on something – and why? When was the last time you failed, and what did you tell yourself about the reason for your failure? If you told yourself anything other than “I did my best and learned a lesson – and I will do better next time,” you’re making excuses. You’re letting limiting beliefs get in the way of achieving your goals.

Overcoming limiting beliefs isn’t always easy. They are deeply ingrained in us, often from childhood. But once you discover what they are and how to identify them, you can learn how to overcome your limiting beliefs. By incorporating actionable strategies for changing limiting beliefs into your everyday life, you can finally achieve everything you’ve ever dreamed of.

The first step to overcoming limiting beliefs is to define and identify them. Limiting beliefs are ideas we hold about ourselves and the world that prevent us from becoming the best version of ourselves. They hold us back in a variety of ways, making us feel like we don’t deserve success, that we’re not as good as others and that the world is against us. They usually fall into four areas: about the world around us, other people, ourselves, entitled beliefs. Would it surprise you to learn that limiting beliefs can sometimes feel empowering? Believing that the world owes you something, that you’re better than others or that others just don’t “get” you are often excuses to avoid growth and stay in your comfort zone.

Good effort vs ok effort.
Average effort vs Elite effort.

Let me ask you a question: what does it mean to give great effort?

I’m not asking what it looks like to observers from the outside. External effort alone is too easy to virtue signal for the sake of reputation. Some people purposely make themselves busy, but not impactful, just to be seen as putting in significant effort. Activity and effort are not the same thing.

Effort for the sake of appearance is empty. It’s like a balloon: a thin external layer without much value underneath it. It’s sizzle parading around as substance.

I’m asking what it means to give great effort whether or not anyone sees it. What are the differentiators between weak, average, and pretty good effort? How does great effort differ from lesser forms?

I’m not asking you this today because I want you to explain it to me. I want you to explain it to yourself. I want you to think and consider your personal standards for effort. This is an opportunity for self-awareness and, hopefully, self-discovery.

No one will ever know the amount of effort you give. Not really. They only see what they see from the outside. People closer to you will have some unique insights, but still most of your real effort will stay hidden from them too.

You’re the only one who will ever know the depth, the truth of your effort. It lives in your mind, your heart, your memory, and some might say your soul. If that’s not a question worth answering, I don’t know what is.
