This thematic introduction bridges the "Pros" of a youth at IIT Bombay with the clinical and literary insights of my later career. It is designed to frame a public reading or a preface for a new edition of my work.
Thematic Introduction: From Disillusionment to Dialogue
The Bridge Between 1973 and 2016
"In 1973, within the rigorous intellectual environment of IIT Bombay, 'Pros' was born as a stark post-mortem of Romanticism. It didn't just win a state award; it captured a specific cultural 'shiver'—the moment when the 'blue flowers' of our youthful ideals were crushed by the 'scornful wink' of reality.
As we revisit this poem through the lens of my 2016 collection, "Healing with Words," I can discover a fascinating evolution. In 1973, I wrote of the 'co**se of an old song' and a woman 'muted by faked freedom.' These were images of terminal silence. Yet, looking back from the perspective of a psychologist and writer, those 'stigmas of time-honored flaws' are no longer just wounds—they are the data points of our resilience.
The 'logic of the bed' and the 'magic of the flesh' that seemed so at odds in my early twenties have, over decades, merged into a deeper understanding of human attachment. Where the young poet saw a 'bleeding night,' the older author sees a 'womb'—a place where, through the intentional use of language, we can finally begin to name our chains and, in naming them, find the key to unlock them.
Tonight, we don't just read a poem from 1973; we witness the beginning of a lifelong conversation between pain and its cure."
A Comparative Perspective: Imagery and Context
It is in a way turns out as a summary of the transition from the "wounded" imagery of the 70s to the "restorative" imagery of 2016.

In 1974, as a Research Assistant at IIT Bombay, I wrote a poem titled "Pros." It was a raw, analytical look at the "logic" of intimacy and the "faked freedom" we often trap ourselves in. That year, it won the M...
